Responsibilities Lucy Scott is the regional Data and Science Coordinator for the UNDP GEF Agulhas & Somali Currents Large Marine Ecosystem (ASCLME) Project. She currently coordinates regional information management activities and Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) development for the project in nine countries.

Over the past twelve years, she has worked in South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Malawi, Comoros, Kenya, Seychelles, Mauritius, Maldives and Madagascar on a wide variety of projects and programmes. These ranged from marine research expeditions to data management projects and the development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), particularly for biodiversity, coastal resource mapping, aquaculture and conservation planning in both freshwater and marine ecosystems. She has provided short course training at four international training courses, covering themes that included coastal zone management, marine and coastal GIS and applications of GIS to shallow subtidal habitat mapping, data management and long term coastal and marine ecosystem monitoring. Lucy has participated in GIS atlas projects at several scales and is currently the regional Western Indian Ocean coordinator for the African Marine Atlas, a project involving participants from 16 African, European and North American countries. She has published in several fields, is a member of the GOOS-AFRICA Remote Sensing Working Group, the South African Data Centre for Oceanography (SADCO) Steering Committee, and the liaison Committee for the SAEON Egagasini node for marine offshore systems. She represents the African Marine Atlas on the steering committee of the (global) International Coastal Atlas Network.
